Biography
Over 25 years of real estate consultancy experience across Canada, specializing in commercial real estate appraisals, John Farmer is currently based in Edmonton. Assignments have taken him throughout Alberta and across the country, in such places as Nanaimo (BC), Whitehorse (YK) and Kugluktuk (NU), Thunder Bay (ON) to Hudson Bay (SK) to name a few.
As a licensed real estate appraiser, consultancy assignments have occasionally included appearances as an expert witness on various real estate matters, such as market rent disputes, divorce settlement, surface rights or expropriation matters.
Between 2011 and 2013, he served as a national board director of the Appraisal Institute of Canada, co-chairing the Admissions and Accreditation Committee. Between 2014 and 2016, he was a council member of the Real Estate Council of Alberta, a legislated position appointed from nominations received by licensed appraisers. It gave him an opportunity to have experience in the administrative justice process as well as gaining an appreciation of the work done by the different licensed real estate sectors covered by the legislation.
