Conflict Resolution Day is October 17, 2024
Theme for 2024: The Roadmap to Peace
Have you ever heard someone caution you not to discuss politics, religion, or other sensitive topics publicly? It’s true that these topics can inflame passions and even lead to conflict. This being said, these topics are important to people, and avoiding them can result in rifts and schisms in our social fabric leading to complex conflicts within ourselves, between people, or within groups. Rather than avoiding important topics, there is a better way to engage in a dialog that maintains respect, dignity and relationships.
This year, we’re going learn how to:
- identify a situation or a circumstance that may lead or has led to a conflict and understand the elements
- using a tool, you will understand your conflict style and how it can affect the conflict outcome
- prepare and practice for a difficult conversation
- define next steps and follow up as needed (resolve manage, or mitigate)
With these skills, you’ll have a new understanding. This interactive workshop is an opportunity for collaboration and collective learning with a focus on peace. This complimentary workshop will be hosted virtually on October 17, 2024 from 12:00p.m. – 1:30 p.m. mountain standard time. Registration details will be made available through Eventbrite and posted over the summer.

Conflict Resolution Day is an international celebration held on the third Thursday in October every year. In Alberta, a committee of representatives from both provincial government and community dispute resolution programs work together to support and promote events across the province.
The goal of Conflict Resolution Day is to get Albertans talking about their options to work through conflict in a positive and productive way.
