My intention is to complete the Family Mediation certificate. I am a lawyer x 25 years, and took both my Mediator and Arbitrator certifications some time ago, and used it within my legal practice, but remained working primarily in litigation. I am very excited to get back to mediation. I have also completed the ADRIA Separation and Divorce course and the AFCC Parenting Coordinator courses. That training provided me with some education in TIP. I would put my knowledge coming into this course at about a 5/10 – lots to learn. After reading the course material on trauma, my understanding of trauma has not changed significantly. That said, the manual contains a very concentrated amount of critical concepts – 2 aspects that stood out to me are a reframing and compassionate approach to understanind and dealing with HC behaviours- looking at what’s behind the problematic behavior; and recognizing the spectrum of impacts trauma has on various aspects of conflict resolution. I anticipate one of the challenges I will face in this work is not taking the HCB personally and maintainging boundaries. Self-care for me looks like reading, walking, and hanging out with my kids. Looking forward to learning from and working with everyone. 🙂
