Hello!
My name is Cynthia Carels.
I am a partner with the law firm of Weir Bowen LLP in Edmonton. My practice is primarily Plaintiff focused, with an emphasis on medical malpractice, serious personal injury claims, and sexual abuse. I am also the national vice president of the Sexual Abuse Lawyers’ Alliance.
As part of my practice, I am regularly involved in mediations, where my client is the only party involved for whom ADR processes are brand new. Everyone else in these mediations is either a lawyer or representative of an insurance company. As such, I take a lot of time to make sure my clients are well prepared for what to expect, and also to be sure I fully understand what they need in order to “get to yes.” In my experience, mediations tend to be very useful to bring many of my files to productive resolution, with a high degree of client satisfaction.
In addition to my professional life, I have two kids, and two ridiculously spoiled “doodles,” and we all think the dog park is the happiest place on earth!
I look forward to meeting everyone online, as we start the Communications in ADR program together.
Cynthia
