We are recruiting labour relations mediators for the designated mediator roster. As a roster mediator, you will be appointed to mediate labour disputes between unions and employers and assist them to negotiate the terms and conditions of their collective bargaining agreements.

Designated labour relations mediators

Alberta Jobs, Economy and Trade is recruiting labour relations mediators for the Designated Mediator Roster.
Designated roster mediators mediate labour disputes between unions and employers, assisting them as they negotiate the terms and conditions of their collective bargaining agreements. To ensure the integrity of the mediation process, the mediator must be perceived as impartial by both union and employer representatives.
Roster mediators are restricted from acting as advocates for either unions or employers in other labour relations matters.
Ideal candidates
Ideal candidates for the roster possess:
- An in-depth understanding of the dynamics of labour relations, contract administration and collective
bargaining; - Knowledge of related labour relations legislation and an awareness of current trends and issues that
impact unionized workplaces; and - A high level of dispute resolution skills.
Qualifications - A minimum of five years’ practical experience in labour relations including significant experience in a lead
negotiating role. - Completed post-secondary education in industrial relations, labour economics or related discipline; and
- A certificate or substantial training or experience in dispute resolution methods.
o Preferably Chartered Mediator (C.Med) and Qualified Mediator (Q.Med) designations.
Equivalent combinations of knowledge, skills, abilities and experience may be considered.
Contract terms
Roster mediation work should be considered part-time with no guarantee of workload or hours. Compensation is based on the fee schedule established by Alberta Jobs, Economy and Trade. Travel throughout the province will be required. Standards of performance and working conditions are governed by a Contract for Service and a Code of Ethics.
