Arbitration Pitfalls & Misconceptions

Whether you're actively involved or just interested in the field, Sabri's luncheon presentation will offer value to lawyers, arbitrators and mediators, and participants in ADR processes or administrative justice.  Sabri's insights and experience in the field of arbitration provide a rich resource of cautions and practical advice that you will not want to miss.  Sabri offers an engaging presentation with opportunities for Q&A.  Noting that issues and perceptions of bias must often be addressed in arbitration processes and awards, Sabri's luncheon presentation provides a fitting introduction for those staying on for ADRIA's afternoon session on Unconscious Bias.

About our Speaker:

Sabri Shawa QC, FCIArb.

Sabri is a founding partner of JSS Barristers and has been practicing law in Calgary for nearly 30 years.  Sabri is an ADRIA Full member. He has represented and advised thousands of parties in matters before the courts, at a wide variety of administrative and regulatory boards and tribunals, and in arbitrations and mediations. Sabri is also an arbitrator and mediator and is regularly retained in those roles. He is an accomplished speaker, offering in depth perspectives on arbitration, mediation, and negotiation developed through experience with many businesses, industries and endeavours. In 2012, Sabri was appointed Queen's Counsel and in 2014, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.  In 2019 Sabri was named by Best Lawyers as Lawyer of the Year in Calgary for Alternative Dispute Resolution, and is listed as a Litigation Star by Benchmark Canada for arbitration.  He recently presented at the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers' Association (ACTLA) full day ADR training sessions in both Edmonton & Calgary.  He has drawn upon those materials for our November luncheon:  Arbitration Pitfalls & Misconceptions.
