Mediation Case Development

Course Dates

Two Days (14 Credit Hours)

This course is a must for those who wish to mediate in private practice in corporate, government and work environments. Participants will understand what types of disputes are suitable for mediation, gain an understanding of how to educate the disputants on processes, procedural set-ups, confirm commitments and expectations, and learn how to prepare for effectively handling  stumbling blocks when mediating. 

Instructor

Sharon Wilson has 23 years of extensive and broad experience working in the field of dispute resolution, meeting the unique needs of individuals and organizations through designing and developing systems and protocols for mediation, facilitation, public consultation, consensus building, assessment, team building, coaching and capacity building. 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand what types of disputes are suitable for mediation
  • Learn how to educate disputants to increase success with the mediation process
  • Understand how to negotiate with disputants to engage in the process
  • Examine how to protect yourself and others while guarding against obstacles in coordinating case development
  • Understand the preparatory steps to complete before bringing parties together for mediation

Course Requirements

ADRIA membership is required to take this course.

Learners must have successfully completed National Introductory Mediation (or equivalent training) prior to taking this course.

This course is 2 days in length, full attendance is required to receive a certificate of course completion.

Course Fees

The fee for this course is $600 plus GST.

Course Materials

Course manual and materials will be provided in class.

Learning Format

This includes lecture, class discussion, small-group work and role-playing.

Program Certificate Credits

Upon successful completion, this course counts as 14 hours of specialized training towards ADRIA's Program Certificate in Conflict Leadership.

ADR Designation Qualification

This course qualifies as 14 hours of specialized training toward your Qualified Mediator (Q.Med) or Chartered Mediator (C.Med) professional designation.
