ADRIA offers nationally-recognized Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) training through our courses and certificate programs in Edmonton and Calgary.

Courses in Dispute Resolution

Courses can be taken as part of a Certificate Program, or individually, as long as pre-requisites are met.


Certificate Programs

Certificate in Conflict Leadership 
Learn the fundamentals of conflict resolution and mediation. This 180-hour program develops an understanding of the dynamics of conflict, and provides hands-on training in ADR communication and mediation skills.
Certificate in Separation & Divorce Mediation
For mediators wanting to work in the field of separation and divorce. This 70-hour program covers safety screening, high conflict situations, parenting plans, child support, spousal support, and division of property.
Certificate in Consensus Decision-Making
Program for
people who want to learn the skills necessary for participating effectively in a consensus process who may want to go on and learn how to manage or lead consensus processes.

Core Courses:

Membership Required

ADRIA membership is required to take our courses and programs. Students must purchase their membership online before registering for a course.

Prerequisites

Some ADRIA courses have pre-requisites, and it is up to the student to ensure they are taking the courses in the required order and that they have passed the pre-requisite before starting the next course. There are no external pre-requisites for any of our courses or Certificate programs.

Registration

Core courses are added to the calendar annually in January for the following Fall, and in June for the Winter, Spring and Summer of the next year. Note that specialized courses are added throughout the year so check the Course Calendar often.

Payment


Payment may be made with a credit card online, buy submitting a cheque to the ADRIA office, or via etransfer to financial@adralberta.com (no security question needed, include your name and invoice number in the message). Payment is due one month prior to the course start date unless otherwise indicated. If payment is not received by the payment deadline, the registrant may lose their seat in the course.

Course Withdrawal

Withdrawals are accepted without penalty up until 21 days prior to the first day of the course. If a student withdraws within 21 days of the course start date, the ADR Institute of Alberta (ADRIA) will retain $1000 or 50% of the course fee, whichever is less.

 Course Cancellation

If a minimum number of registrants is not reached 21 days prior to the course start date, the course will be cancelled and payment will be reimbursed.

Course Cancellation Due to COVID-19

If the course is cancelled or postponed due to COVID, you will be entitled to a full refund or to transfer to a future date, whichever is your preference.

 Course Completion

Students must attend 100% of the training to receive a certificate of course completion. Unless otherwise specified, the entire course must be completed on the dates it is offered in that session - if a course is offered in two or more parts, they cannot be taken in separate sessions or locations.

Program Certificate Completion

Students must attend 100% of the training and pass the evaluations throughout the course in order to receive a certificate. Program Certificates must be completed within three (3) years of the start of the program.


Public Courses (Assertive Expression, Understanding Conflict, Managing Conflict, Conflict Skills for Bullying Behaviours):

Membership 

An ADRIA membership is not required to take public courses.

Prerequisites

Our public courses do not have any prerequisites.

Registration

Public courses are added to the calendar by January for the Winter/Spring, by April for the Summer, and by August for the Fall. 

Payment


Payment is due at the time of registration and may be made with a credit card online. If you wish to pay with a cheque or via etransfer, please contact us at education@adralberta.com and we will be happy to assist you.


Course Withdrawal

Withdrawal up to 2 weeks in advance: Refund of course fee less $50 administration fee.

Withdrawal from 2 weeks up to 2 business days in advance: Refund of 50% of course fee.

Withdrawal less than 2 business days in advance: No refund.

All requests for withdrawal must be made in writing to education@adralberta.com.

 Course Cancellation

If a minimum number of students is not reached 7 days prior to the course start date, the course will be cancelled and full payment will be reimbursed.

 Course Completion

Students must attend 100% of the training to receive a certificate of course completion
